An epilator is a small electric device that removes hair from the root. Its head has rows of tiny metal tweezers that spin, catch the hair and pull it out — the same idea as waxing, but with no wax, strips or heating.
Epilator meaning in Urdu
In Urdu, an epilator is simply described as "baal jarr se nikaalne wali machine" — a machine that removes hair from the root. "Epilation" means removing hair from the root, while "depilation" (shaving, creams) removes it at the surface.
How an epilator works
- You switch it on and hold it flat against the skin.
- The rotating tweezers open and close many times a second.
- Each tweezer grips a hair and pulls it out from the root as you move slowly.
Epilator vs shaving vs waxing
| Epilator | Shaving | Waxing | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Removes hair | From the root | At the surface | From the root |
| Smooth for | 2–4 weeks | 1–3 days | 3–4 weeks |
| Pain | Stings at first | None | Short sting |
| Running cost | None | Blades | Wax and strips |
Does it hurt?
The first 2–3 sessions sting, especially on the underarms. After that most women find it much easier, because hair grows back finer. Starting on the low speed, keeping the skin stretched and epilating after a warm shower all help.
Who should use an epilator?
- Women who are tired of shaving every few days.
- Anyone who wants waxing-like results at home without wax or heating.
- Women who want one device that lasts for years.
